The more words you're exposed to, the better your vocabulary will be.
This application will expose you to many new words and their definitions
in a very short period of time.
The best way to learn vocabulary words and remember them is to use the word
in context. The best way to use Word Exposure is to read the word, then check
the definition -- then try to use the word in a sentence (in context).
The instructions for Word Exposure are simple. Each time you come to this web
page, you will be presented with 12 random words that may appear on advanced tests,
such as the SAT. Click on the word and the definition will appear.
The Next Word button moves to the next word. The Last Word button moves to
the last word you studied, not the last word in the list of 12 words. If you
know the word well, click the Exclude Word button to remove it from the list.
Once you have excluded a word, the Restart List button will activate.
Clicking the Restart List button will restore all the excluded words. Go through
the 12 words as many times as necessary until you feel comfortable with all the
words. The New Word List button generates a completely new list of 12 words.
If you want to see the definition first, click the Definition/Word button. Remember -
if you use the word in a sentence, that will help you remember it.
There are about 5,000 vocabulary words and their definitions in BlackDog's word bank.
At 12 words per list, that's a lot of words to learn. Better get started!
